Stephen Sohn called the meeting to order at 6:41p.m. for the CDC Board.
1. CULTURAL ARTS BOARD/COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION SHALL RECEIVE
AND CONSIDER CAMP PRESENTATION. AT THIS TIME THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
AND THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION WILL RECEIVE A
PRESENTATION ON THE FEBRUARY 2012 DRAFT OF THE CULTURAL ARTS MASTER PLAN
FROM THE CONSULTANTS WITH THE CULTURAL PLANNING GROUP -
Jerry Allen and David Plettner-Saunders from The Cultural Planning Group presented the boards with a
draft of'the Cultural Arts Master Plan. They expressed appreciation to each board for their participation in
the project.
To develop the Master Plan, the consultants met with city staff, the Cultural Arts Board, representatives from
local organizations, the art teacher andprincipal from Griffin Middle School, the art teacher and orchestra
leader from The Colony High School, City Council, and they attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting.
They also had 298 responses from an online survey.
The consultants reviewed some of their findings and goals to be achieved through the Master Plan. The
findings indicate that residents have an interest in culture, but the lack of cultural opportunities and facilities
lead residents to go out of the city to fulfill their cultural activities. There was discussion about urban design
and how it could enhance the city's cultural identity. Other goals discussed were toprovide residents with
cultural activities close to home and to pursue public/private partnerships.
The plan lists strategies as a way to accomplish the goals, discusses ways to implement the plan - it will take
the combined efforts of the city, the Cultural Arts Board leading the way, local organizations, and businesses
working together to achieve the goals identified in the Master Plan, and identifies finding sources to be
utilized.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
