HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/26/98 Library Board MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY MARCH 26, 1998 A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was Called to order by Chair Skelton at 7:02 p.m. Present: Sandri Gehrke Place 1 Diana Kruzich Place 2 James Althaus Place 3 (arrived 7:15 p.m.) Jayme Skelton Place 5 Sue Parks Place 7 Joan L. Sveinsson Library Director Absent: Lorraine Clark Place 4 (Personal Business) Wayne Bullard Place 6 (Business) 1. Citizen's Input. 1.1 None. 2. Consideration of approval of minutes of the board meeting held February 26, 1998. 2.1. Minutes stand approved. 3. Reports: 3.1. Chairman The luncheon for the volunteers was very nice. It was sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 3.2. NTRLS System Representative · ' Director Sveinsson reported, on behalf of System Representative Tricia Mooney, that the by-laws amendments were approved at the System Meeting. 3.3. Library Director: · Cyndy Sanders is the newly hired Technical Services Librarian; Ms. Sanders did her practicum with The Colony Public Library in 1994 and has been w~rking for a nonprofit organization. · The architect has been selected: Hatfield Crookless Architects, Inc. · Director Sveinsson reported that the Public Library Association National Conference had several excellent programs. The Texas Library Association Conference will be held April 1-4, 1998, in San Antonio. · Director Sveinsson briefed the members on concerns expressed by some patrons re: children's access to videos and re: children viewing questionable materials on the Internet workstations. The Library staff continues to urge -- parents to be aware of the materials their children borrow from the Library and to supervise their children's use of the Internet. Director Sveinsson has spoken with two juveniles re: their choice of sites and its impact on staff and on other patrons. · Director Sveinsson noted that, while circulation was up in February 199/) compared to February 1997, patron visits had decreased. A review of the schedule for February 1997 showed that the Library hosted sports league registrations on three Saturdays and had a puppet show on one Saturday; no such events occurred in February 1998. The lack of these events this year impacted the count of persons entering the Library. 3.4. Other members: · None. The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m. ~- JaTo S~lton, Chair an L.
