HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/16/2010 CDCMINUTES THE COLONY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION JOINT WORK SESSION JUNE 16TH 2010 PRESENT: Don Beckel - President Stephen Sohn - Member Lisa Leary - Member Kathy Braby - Member ABSENT: John Sanders Dan Mahle TeRon Lawrence CULTURAL ARTS BOARD MEMBERS - PRESENT: Liz Ripperger - Chairperson Joan Lux - Vice Chair Jeff Scoggins Casey Kidwell Kathy Costa Laron Cheek ABSENT; Donna Arnold STAFF: Pam Nelson Keith Helms Kathy Neal COUNCIL LIAISON: Allen Harris CITY LIAISON: Kate Margolis, Absent Don Beckel opened the meeting for the CDC Board and Liz Ripperger opened the meeting for the CAB Board. 1. WORKSESSION TO DISCUSS PRIORITIES, EXPECTIONS, AND TIMELINES FOR THE FOLLOWING COMMITTEES - There was discussion that some committees will need to meet soon as work is already in progress or is getting ready to start in some areas listed below. It was decided to have 2 Co-Chairs - one person from each board will co-chair on each committee. They will serve as contacts for the committee, keep the committee informed as needed, and schedule meetings. Each board should include updates from the committees in their agendas. ARTS MASTER PLAN - There was discussion about doing a community survey to help determine priorities. A recommendation was made to determine a vision first then do a survey. An RFP needs to be developed by the committed to hire a consultant; the consultant can't be hired based on cost, they have to be hired based on their qualifications. Keith or Pam can provide copies of the RFP used for the CDC Master Plan and Stewart Creek Park Master Plan to be used as examples for the committee. Lisa will Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Jeff will Co-Chair for the CAB Board. They will meet on July 13`h in the Parks & Rec. Administrative office board room. SOUNDWALL ART PANELS - This project is not a critical item as it is still a couple years away from construction. Different concepts have been discussed. There will be 22 panels that are 6ft. x 6ft. and 5 inches deep. TXDOT will pay for a cast stone basic design, but the city absorbs the maintenance cost. Stephen is Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Casey is Co-Chair for the CAB Board. They will do research on designs and get some examples for their meeting in September. • STEWARTS CREEK PARK ARTWORK - There was discussion about creating a new entry feature and installing Park Pets. Anything done should be coordinated with the Stewart Creek Park Master Plan. John will Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Donna will Co-Chair for the CAB Board, and a meeting will be scheduled for August. KALEIDOSCAPES - There was discussion about putting these in other locations. A suggestion was made to do a study in the Arts Master Plan to determine where to put them in the community, funding and how they will be built; will there be a community build like the originals were built? Vandalism is also a concern. Don will Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Liz will Co-Chair for the CAB Board. They will meet in September. • KIDS COLONY NAME BOARD AND ARTWORK - The entire playground will not be torn down in the first phase. Name boards will be kept for use in the new playground; inventory is still in progress. Dan will Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Joan will Co-Chair for the CAB Board. They will meet in July. TOWER DESIGN - This project needs to move quickly. Kathy Braby will Co-Chair for the CDC Board and Kathy Costa will Co-Chair for the CAB Board. They will meet after July 4`I'. 2. ACTION TO BE TAKEN AS A RESULT OF THE WORK SESSION - No action was taken.
