held May 22, 1997.
Minutes stand approved.
3. Reports:
a. Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee Representative:
Member Bullard stated that the Comprehensive Plan was passed
by Council mostly intact; however, the Plan will be back on
the agenda for June 23, 1997 because of the concern re: the
family entertainment district.
b. Chairman:
None.
c. NTRLS System Representative:
Director Sveinsson stated The Colony hosted the East Region
meeting. We are still without a member on the Board of
Directors from the East Region and we are still looking for
a nominee.
It is time for The Colony to appoint or re-appoint the NTRLS
System Representative and Alternate Representative. Patricia
Mooney is currently serving as Representative and James

Althaus is serving as Alternate. Both are willing to
continue serving in these respective roles. These
appointments must be made by City Council. Director
Sveinsson asked for the Board's recommendation. It was the
consensus of the Board to recommend that Patricia Mooney and
James Althaus be reappointed to their respective positions.
d. Library Director:
Director Sveinsson needed to clarify that the fees that
Council approved on June 2, 1997 are our current fees.
Later on this summer the changes that we would like to
request will go to the fees committee, then to Council.
The Summer Reading Club started on June 3, 1997; a total of
562 children have signed up. Youth Services Librarian Debbie
Brightwell has done a wonderful job with this program. Her
goal for the Summer Reading Club signups is 800 children.
Director Sveinsson will be attending the ALA conference in
California from June 27 through July 7th.
Staff is still having to trouble-shoot some patron-caused
problems with the Internet workstations. We need better
software to help protect them. We had a few patrons using a --
free e-mail service, so we blocked it via Cyber Patrol.
The new City Manager started Monday June 16, 1997. His name
is Lanny S. Lambert. New Council member Henville-Shannon
toured the Library with Mayor Watts.
The Library usage statistics are up. New employees are
getting their training. The Blast-Off was a great fund-
raiser, over $400.00 was brought in. The cable to connect
the Library computers to City Hall is currently being placed.
The State Library is having an Internet training session
regarding helping the patrons, and all (4) four librarians
will be attending.
The Library took 5 JPTA workers last summer which turned out
to be too many to adequately supervise. This year we will be
only taking one worker.
Youth Services Librarian Brightwell sent a thank you letter
to the Griffin Middle School 6th grade class for donating the
$268.00 they raised from bake sales, etc. We will buy
videos and CD's for that age group with this donation.
The Library will be included in a grant application being
submitted to The Meadows Foundation; the purpose is to
provide fax machines for the libraries.
