HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/22/97 Library Board MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY MAY 22, 1997 A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony Texas, was called to order by Chair Jayme Skelton at 7:02 p.m. Present: Sandri Gehrke Place 1 Diana Kruzich Place 2 Lorraine Clark Place 4 Jayme Skelton Place 5 Joan Sveinsson Library Director James Althaus Place 3 (arrived at 7:45 pm.) Absent: Wayne Bullard Place 6 (personal business.) 1. Citizen's Input. None. 2. Consideration of approval of minutes of the board meeting held April 24, 1997. Minutes stand approved. 3. Discussion and consideration of proposed revisions to the Circulation policy. Proposed revisions: 1. Eliminate all exceptions relating to the Video History Project Tapes. 2.Increase the limit on videos to four (4) per family. 3.Eliminate the limit on outreach items. 4. Clarify wording re: loan period for videos not classified as non-fiction. 5. Revise refund section to indicate that refund would be less any notification fees. Member Kruzich moved to approve the revisions; the motion was seconded by Member Gehrke and passed unanimously. 4. Reports: a. Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee Report: The Comprehensive Plan is on the City Council agenda for June 2, 1997. All Board members are encouraged to attend the meeting. b. Chairman's Report: The June Library Board meeting will be rescheduled to June 19, 1997. C. NTRLS System Representative's Report: The Colony will be hosting the East Region meeting 10:00 am June 9, 1997. d. Library Director's Report: 1. Charleen Joyce "Joy" Lindsay, full-time Circulation Clerk and Karen McCuiston summer full-time Circulation Clerk will be starting Tuesday May 27, 1997. 2. Director Sveinsson encouraged the Board members to tour the Youth Area in the Library. Youth Services Librarian Debbie Brightwell has done a wonderful job preparing it for the Summer Reading Club. 3. Director Sveinsson is working on the 1997-98 budget proposal. 4. Non-fiction videos have been integrated into the non- fiction collection. 5. Internet usage has increased and so has trouble- shooting related problems. 6. The table for the Library patio has arrived; however, it received damage in shipping and is minus a few parts. The company is working with the Friends of the Library to replace the damaged table and parts. 7. The Blast-off for the Summer Reading Club is on June 7, 1997 with a Bake Sale, Book Sale and some craft items for sale, such as beany baby sleeping bags.
