HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/14/09 CAB July 14, 2009, The Colony Public Library, 7:08 pm CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY July 14, 2009 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Lux at 7:08pm Present: Joan Lux Place 5 Robert Lux Place 1 Timothy Martin Place 3 Laron Cheek Place 4 Absent: Claudia Stooksberry Place 7 (excused) Cindy Marshall Place 2 (excused) Liz Ripperger Place 6 (excused) 1. Citizen Input None. 2. Minutes Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meetings held May 20, 2009 and June 10, 2009. Approved as presented. 3. Welcome to and discussion of new Council Liaison: Mayor Joe McCourry Mayor McCourry introduced himself, He informed the board that he will attend meetings when possible, will observe and offer input when asked. 4. Welcome to new member Laron Cheek All board members introduced themselvek. 5. Discussion and consideration of Lakeside CWmunity Theater's request to use equipment. 1 July 14, 2009, The Colony Public Library, 7:08 pm Approved unanimously. 6. Discussion of City Council's decisions affecting CAB The CAB discussed how the City Council's decisions may affect the board, including giving CAB the ability to give recommendations based on a budget.. What the parameters and final decision power will be have yet to be decided by Council. CAB will form guidelines for the funds. For example, what would happen if one group requests all funds. CAB discussed the need to add officer positions to the board, including a financial officer and possibly a recording secretary; and the fact that all facets of the board are now up for reconsideration. 7. Discussion and consideration of City Council's request for guidelines for funding by CAB Covered in discussion of item 6. 8. Discussion of CAB's involvement with Community Development Corporation (CDC) The board discussed Community Development Corporation projects with Community Services Director Pam Nelson, and how they might like to be involved, including the possibility of getting involved in a project for a new building, public art projects, and arts master plan - including a feasibility study, and the development of a "town center". The board discussed the possibility of having a special meeting with CDC, and possibly with City Council as well. 9. Discussion, update and consideration of 2009 Pirate Days multi-media contest All members discussed the status of the contest entries. 10. Discussion and consideration of Lakeside Arts Center issues a. Rules of use b. Process for disputes Any disputes should come before CAB. C. Current problems/complaints Member Martin suggested that CAB members regularly "look in on" the facility, to keep tabs on any unreported problems. 2 July 14, 2009, The Colony Public Library, 7:08 pm Expressed that fire inspection, which is currently required, is one level of care, that real safety is yet another. Member Cheek expressed concern about American Legion's limited use of building during Lakeside Community Theater's productions. 11. Discussion and consideration of Lakeside Arts Center issues on agendas Tabled. 12. Discussion and consideration of website Member Martin brought up the possibility of incorporating a website into the new plan for CAB. He will contact the City Manager about the possibility of the city purchasing a URL for CAB to use. 13. Discussion of CAB's strategic direction Discussed with items b and 8. 14.
