CITY OF THE COLONY
OCTOBER 24, 1996
A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony
Texas, was called to order by Chair Dorian Barton at 7:01 p.m.

1. Citizen's Input.
None
2. Consideration of approval of minutes of the board meeting
held August 22, 1996.
Minutes stand approved.
3. Reports:
a. Community Assessment Committee: None
Board member Wayne Bullard mentioned the Comprehensive
Plan Steering Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, October
30, 1996.
b. Library Assessment Committee: None
c. Chairman's Report:
Due to the holidays it was decided the November board
meeting will be rescheduled for November 21st and the
December board meeting will be rescheduled for December
19th.
d. NTRLS System Representative's Report: None
e. New Technologies Committee Reports None
f. Library Director's Report:
1. Acting Library Director Jan Sapp informed the board of the new
policy for accepting Library donations. Donations will be
accepted year round (no magazines). Friends of The Colony Public
Library President Lorraine Clark and Library Board Member Diana
Kruzich will sort the donations on a regular basis. A new
donation policy handout and a new receipt has been made available
to the public.
2. Acting Director Jan Sapp is taking requests for the Books on
Tape order.
3. Circulation Clerk Yolanda Putnam resigned. Her last day of
employment was October 19, 1996.
4. Circulation Clerk Jo Chantrill has returned from Iowa. Her
Mother is seriously ill.
5. Circulation Clerk Alice Collins is having medical tests done.
6. Youth Services Librarian Debbie Brightwell is conducting a
Halloween craft class Saturday, October 26, 1996.
7. The Library meeting room will serve as a polling location for
the November elections.
8. Youth Services Librarian Debbie Brightwell is hosting a
Science Experiment Program for P.T.A. and L.I.S.D. staff on
December 4, 1996.
9. Friends of The Colony Public Library have sold 35 pies for
the Library fundraiser.
10. A purchasing order is being prepared to retile the public
restroom walls.
11. Youth Services Librarian Debbie Brightwell performed three
puppet shows at the Firefest on October 19, 1996.
12. Fifty percent of the collection is being rearranged to make
space in the Library's public area.
13. Acting Director Jan Sapp will track down an article appearing
in last weeks magazine Newsweek. This article covers a Library in
San Francisco that has gone "on line" with their collection. Any
information she obtains will be shared with the Library board.
The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
