The Colony: Transportation System Public Transit within The Colony The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Regional Rail Corridor Study indicates the City would provide an attractive location for the development of a commuter rail station in the future. Further, one additional station is planned immediately east of our city limits near Memorial Drive. As displayed in Figure 4-1, these potential rail stations would be located along the Burlington Northern (BNSF) line at Windhaven Parkway and just north of SH 121 at Memorial Drive. Rail stations located within The Colony would not only serve the citizens of The Colony but due to the proposed locations of these stations they would easily serve surrounding communities which achieves the overall goal of providing an effective regional rail transportation system for the state of Texas. The location of the proposed station would not only benefit the citizens of The Colony but also citizens in adjacent communities. This site may also be able to accommodate more of a "park and ride" function for the transit center in addition an actual rail station due to the amount of developable land in the area. This area is also served by the City's Bike and Trail Master plan, making pedestrian access even more accommodating. See Figure 4- 3 for an overview of the Memorial Drive location. 1 d 51 S 1 !
