MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
January 7th, 2009
A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called
to order by Chair Lux at 7:20 pm

1. Citizen Input
Christi Martin, 5604 Longhorn Dr, informed the board about the Community
Variety Showcase that is sponsored by the Lakeside Arts Foundation. The
performance will take place at Five-Star Park on March 7, 2009, at 7:30pm.
Auditions will be held at the Lakeside Arts Center on February 21, 2009 by
appointment.
Any medium is welcome, as long as it is family appropriate.
Ms. Martin also announced that the groundbreaking for the Kaleidoscape project
will take place on January 19th.
2. Minutes
Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held
November 18, 2008.
The minutes were approved as presented.
3. Discussion and consideration of participation in National Dance Week.
The board discussed details for the CAB's National Dance Week event. The
discussion included establishing signage for the event, and it was suggested that
the CAB look into buying frame signs to use for this event, and have for future

events. The board discussed other publicity issues and a proposal was made to
request $3000 in Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds for help with expenses for
the event. This proposal was approved unanimously.
The board also agreed to request use of the medium gymnasium at The Colony
High School, to use in addition to the previously reserved dance studio room.
4. Discussion and consideration of new Children's Theater.
Christi Martin, 5604 Longhorn Dr, informed the board about a new theater group
for school-age children, The Colony Playhouse. The plan for the theater's first
year is to put on two full-length productions, one in the summer and one for the
holidays. There may also be a possible Pirate Days production. Rehearsals and
productions will be held in schools and churches for the time being. There will be
opportunities for anyone to participate.
The Colony Playhouse would like general support from the CAB and to be
included in publicity and kept in mind for grant opportunities.
5. Discussion of 2009 photography and multi-media contest.
Member Martin distributed a project proposal he had prepared for the board to
review. He suggested all members review and discuss further at the February
meeting, with a more formal proposal and a vote to follow at the March meeting.
The board discussed some details of the event. The board would like to arrange to
have its own tent for the event this year.
6. Discussion and consideration of CAB page on city website.
The board discussed the specifics of the page and voted to eliminate the paragraph
that begins with the word "NOTICE". Liaison Margolis will contact the web
administrators about making the change.
The board also discussed options for building and maintaining an independent
website. The matter will be discussed further at the February meeting.
