HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/18/08 CAB November 18, 2008, The Colony City Hall, 7:25 pm CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY November 18th, 2008 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Lux at 7:25 pm Present: Joan Lux Place 5 Robert Lux Place 1 Cynthia Shailer Place 4 Liz Ripperger Place 6 Claudia Stooksberry Place 7 Timothy Martin Place 3 Absent: Cindy Marshall Place 2 (excused) 1. Citizen Input Christi Martin, 5604 Longhorn Dr, informed the board that there are people interested in starting a children's theater in The Colony. The group, which is looking to do something by the summer of 2009, may want some use of the Lakeside Arts Center, and may want funding help. 2. Minutes Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held October 21, 2008. The minutes were approved as presented. 3. Update on photography display at The Colony Public Library. Chair Lux told board about the display in the display case inside the library, which will come down at the end of the month (November). 4. Update on status of the Lakeside Arts Center use agreement. The board reviewed changes made and approved by the City Council. There was a brief discussion on why a letter was not written to the City Council, as discussed at the October CAB meeting. Chair Lux explained that the decision was made, 1 November 18, 2008, The Colony City Hall, 7:25 pm because the version of the use agreement that was sent for approval was the same as the one CAB had approved. 5. Discussion and consideration of participation in National Dance Week. Member Shailer gave out a 3-idea plan for dance week. Further discussion was tabled until the next meeting. 6. Discussion and consideration of Lakeside Arts Foundation's use of both rooms of the Lakeside Arts Center on February 21, 2009 from Ipm to 6pm to hold auditions for a Spring Community Showcase fundraiser. Unanimously approved. 7. Discussion of the functional and operational roles of the CAB. Member Martin inquired about the CAB's role in "soliciting gifts" for the city, as cited in the charter. The board discussed the CAB's capacity for raising funds for arts functions (i.e - a tent for the Pirates Days event). There would have to be a fund account set up through the city, so the matter would need to be brought to the City Council. 8. Discussion of expanding next year's photography contest into a "media exposition' The board discussed adding video and music to the contest. Ideas included an ongoing "film festival" throughout the day, entrants also making posters for their entries, art display in hospitality tent. Discussion will continue with January's agenda. 9. Discussion and consideration of procedure and policy concerning keys to the Lakeside Arts Center. Procedure and policy will remain as is.
