MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
October 21, 2008
A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called
to order by Chair Lux at 7: 10 pm

1. Citizen Input
Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive updated the board on the Kaleidascape
project. There were 9 panels completed at the Pirate Days celebration. The
panels need to be framed and mounted and the city needs to finish the bases
before they can be installed. There will be an installation ceremony and
celebration.
2. Minutes
Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held
September 23, 2008.
The minutes were approved as presented.
3. Discussion of National Dance Week.
Member Shailer asked the board for ideas to become involved, as a board, with
National Dance Week (April 24 - May 3,2009). The discussion was tabled until
the November meeting.
4. Review and discussion of board rules and procedures.
Chair Lux presented a meeting procedure summary to the board, outlining the
basic procedures to be used during any board meeting.

5. Discussion and consideration of further amendments to the Lakeside Arts Center
Use Policy, per City Council recommendations and to direct the amended
document to City Council for approval.
The City Council conveyed, via City Manager Dale Cheatham, that they would
like the Lakeside Community Theater added to Attachment A of the Lakeside
Arts center Use Policy (Groups Authorized for Continual Use).
The board voted against the amendment 4-2. The policy will still be sent to the
council for approval with the amendment, but the CAB will write a letter making
clear the board's position.
6. Report on Pirate Days photography contest.
Chairman Lux reviewed winners and photo subjects for the board. The board
would like to find a place to display the top award-winning pictures.
7. Discussion and consideration regarding responsibilities and procedures pertaining
to the Lakeside Arts Center.
There are concerns among the regular users of the Lakeside Arts Center (LAC)
about the building getting locked up properly. The board discussed different
ways to assure that the building gets properly secured. The issue of key
distribution will be discussed at the November meeting.
Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive expressed concern over the safety of the
building and its contents.
