HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/15/08 CAB July 15, 2008, The Colony City Hall, 7:08 pm CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY July 15, 2008 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Lux at 7:08 pm Present: Joan Lux Robert Lux Liz Ripperger Cindy Marshall Timothy Martin Place 5 Place 1 Place 6 Place 2 Place 3 Absent: Sherry Goplin Cynthia Shailer Place 7 (excused) Place 4 (excused) 1. Citizen Input Joan Lux, of 5101 Strickland Ave, brought information to the baord about The Colony Women's League, a local group that has formed to do outreach within the community. 2. Minutes Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held June 17,2008. Minutes were approved as presented. 3 . Welcome new member to board. Timothy Martin introduced himself to the board and waswelcomed by all members present. 4. Discussion and consideration of changing August 2008 meeting to Thursday, August 14th, 7:00 pm. The board unanimously approved the change. 5. Discussion and consideration of distribution method of essential documents to board members. 1 July 15, 2008, The Colony City Hall, 7:08 pm Liaison Margolis asked the board to decide how they would like to receive agendas and minutes every month before the meeting. The board unanimously agreed that an emailed agenda prior to the meeting, and hard copies of both documents brought to the meeting is an acceptable method. 6. Discussion and consideration of recommending use of Hotel Motel Tax funds for promotion of the Fear Factory haunted house. The Lakeside Community Theater is seeking $4,625 of Hotel Motel Tax funds for promotion and advertising of their Haunted House, to be held in October 2008 and asked for the CAB's recommendation. The board approved to recommend the grant to City Council unanimously. There will be an agenda request submitted for the August 4th City Council meeting. 7. Discussion of Pirate Days event. Member Ripperger announced that anyone who knew performers, stage managers or sound crew members who might want to participate in the event to have them contact her. 8. Discussion and consideration of a CAB sponsored photography contest for Pirate Days event. Member Marshall announced that the committee for the Pirate Days event would like CAB to sponsor a photography contest. The contest would involve different age groups and different categories of photographs. Three qualified judges (not CAB members) would judge the contest. The prizes would include gift certificates from local restaurants, among other things. The board voted unanimously to sponsor the event and to work out details at the August meeting.
