HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/26/08 CAB February 26,2008, The Lakeside Arts Center, 7:09 pm CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY February 26, 2008 A SPECIAL SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Vice-Chair Lux at 7:09 pm Present: Joan Lux Cindy Marshall Robert Lux Liz Ripperger Sherry Goplin Place 5 Place 2 Place 1 Place 6 Place 7 Absent: Cynthia Shailer Place 4 (excused) 1. Citizen Input Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive informed the board of a project she is working on with the Lakeside Arts Foundation tentatively called "Peace Panels", using stained-glass-like art pieces in public places. She would like the support of the board. 2. Minutes Minutes from January 8,2008 approved with one spelling correction "Legion". Motion to approve minutes with correction made by Sherry Goplin and seconded by Cindy Marshall. Motion approved 3. Discussion and consideration of change of evening for Cultural Arts Board meetings to the third Tuesday of each month. Motion made by Liz Ripperger to approve the change to the third Tuesday of the month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Seconded by Cindy Marshall. Motion approved. 4. Review of meeting with Pam Nelson regarding statues at Five Star Regarding the statues at Five Star Chair Lux, Sherry Goplin and Cindy Marshall met with Pam Nelson, Director of the Parks and Recreation department ofthe city of The Colony and walked the Five Star Park suggesting changes in some of the February 26,2008, The Lakeside Arts Center, 7:09 pm placement of statues, lighting in the ground (not solar) to shine on statues and black rock around each statue to give a better appearance then regular stone. Also discussed was a possibility of acquiring more statues to complement the others. Pam said she would address the 4B board and appreciated our help. Chair Lux praised those involved and thanked Pam for involving the CAB. 5. Review of policy regarding absences from board meetings Chair Lux thanked Joan Sveinsson for sending each board member the policy regarding absences as requested by a board member. Brief discussion followed. 6. Discussion of current status of Lakeside Arts Center. Liaison Margolis will contact Dale Cheatham to set up a meeting with Chair Lux to discuss the changes since meeting in 2007. Later a meeting will be set with the Lakeside Arts Foundation (Christi Martin) and Lakeside Community Theater (Victoria and David), and possibly others. A motion was made by Cindy Marshall and seconded by Sherry Goplin to have this meeting set up before we meet again. Motion was passed. 7. Discussion and consideration of rate structure for Lakeside Arts Center fees and deposits This item was tabled. 8. Discussion and consideration of usage of the Lakeside Arts Center by the Lakeside Arts Foundation for a community showcase on the last weekend of September, 2008 Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive addressed the board requesting use of the Arts Center and grounds on September 20th Saturday for two community shows, a matinee and evening show. Community Shows have been done under the Lakeside Arts Foundation in previous years. During the week she will have auditions in the Art Zone room. The shows will be coordinated with the City, Pam Nelson, Director of Parks and Recreation well be asked for help with stage and floor. A motion was made by Liz Ripperger to accept Christi Martin's request for use of the Lakeside Arts Center and grounds and asking for HOT funds only to cover publicity. Seconded by Cindy Marshall. After brief discussion motion approved by Board. 9. Discussion of future Dancers Against Cancer event 2 February 26, 2008, The Lakeside Arts Center, 7:09 pm the process for using the high school and notifying Pam Nelson of our intentions to host our own event. Liz Ripperger will be responsible for contacting the high school, since the high school will begin construction during the summer, and she would also contact Pam Nelson in order for us to have a permit under Parks and Recreation. The board unanimously agreed. Motion was made by Robert Lux to pursue this venture and seconded by Sherry Goplin. 10. Discussion and consideration of action to take on American Legion Riders use of Lakeside Arts Center A motion was made that the American Legion Riders would hold their Chili Cookout on April 26, 2008 at the Lakeside Arts Center by Cindy Marshall and seconded by Sherry Goplin. Liaison Margolis will notify the proper people. The meeting adjourned at 8: 15 pm ~t? 3
