MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
March 20, 2008
A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order
by Chair Clark at 7:00 p.m

1. Citizens Input.
None.
2. Consideration and approval of minutes of the board meeting held on February 28, 2008.
The minutes were approved as presented.
3. Library Director's report.
a. Status report re: operations.
Director Sveinsson is working on the department budget for FY 08-09 and the documents
for the Denton County library funding proposal.
The downloadable audiobook service is scheduled to go live on May 15th.
TCPL participated in the Griffin Middle School Career and College night event; TCPL staff
made over 110 contacts with parents and students in promoting the Library's Live
Homework Help service, the online Testing & Education Reference Center, and the
Library's other electronic and traditional services.
Director Sveinsson and Youth Services Librarian Snyder attended a district-wide meeting
of the L1SD librarians on March 12th at the Lewisville Public Library. It was a very
productive event that gave TCPL staff the opportunity to share information about services
TCPL provides and about the willingness of the TCPL staff to provide support for school
assignments.
Director Sveinsson has been asked to give a brief presentation to the Chamber of
Commerce Board next month.
The Texas Library Association Annual Conference will be held in Dallas next month. The
Library will close for an In-Service on Thursday April 1 ih, which will allow the entire staff to
go to the conference that day. Director Sveinsson noted that the TLA conference hosts
the largest library exhibits event of all the state library conferences; should any Board
members wish to tour the exhibits, the exhibits passes cost $20.
b. Status re: grant projects.
The staff is continuing to expend the Loan Star Libraries grant funds.
Director Sveinsson is working on the CoServ Charitable Foundation Grant application for
the Live Homework Help service.
c. Update re: Friends of the Library activities.
The Friends officers will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26.
The annual membership meeting and fun night will be held at the Library on Saturday,
April 12, at 7 p.m. The theme is "Wii Would Like You to Play" and will feature Wii Bowling
and Guitar Hero, as well as a large variety of "old school" games.
Member Spears announced her interest in starting a mystery book club.
The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2008.
The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
