HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 08-040 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. 08-040 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS DESIGNATING POLLING LOCATIONS AND APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS FOR A MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON MAY 10, 2008; EST ABLISHING PAY RATES FOR ELECTION WORKERS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on February 4, 2008 the City Council of the City of The Colony ordered an election be held on May 10, 2008 for the purpose of electing four Single- Member District Council Members: Place 3, Place 4, Place 5 and Place 6; and WHEREAS, the polling locations were designated in said election order; and, WHEREAS, at the time of ordering the election the election judges and alternate election judges were yet to be named; and, WHEREAS, upon the expiration of filing for a place on the ballot, the withdrawal deadline, and the expiration of the time allowed for write-in candidates to declare candidacy, Place 5 and Place 6 had opposed candidates and Place 3 and Place 4 had unopposed candidates; and, WHEREAS, the City Secretary has certified that the candidates for Place 3 and Place 4 are unopposed resulting in those elections being cancelled; and, WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to have a single polling location for all voters on May 10, 2008. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: Section 1. That Peters Colony Elementary School, 5101 Nash, be designated as the single polling location for the May 10, 2008 General Election for city council Place 5 and Place 6, and for the Lewisville Independent School District voters city-wide. Section 2. follows: That the election officers for said county precincts shall be as DENTON COUNTY ELECTION PRECINCTS 109. 222. 201. and 219 (Place 6 on Iv ) Presiding Judge Regina Carpenter Alternate Judge Rolando Reyes S:\City_Secretary\DOC\ELECTION\2008 Election\Resolution Appointing Judges.doc EARL Y BALLOT BOARD PRESIDING JUDGE Regina Carpenter The Presiding Judge shall appoint not less than two (2) nor more than five (5) qualified election clerks to serve and assist in the conduct of the election, providing that if the Presiding Judge named above actually serves as expected, the Alternate Presiding Judge shall be one of such clerks. By passing this Resolution, the City Council of said City approves and concurs in the appointment of the aforesaid election officers. Section 3. That the judges shall be compensated at a rate of ten dollars ($10.00) per hour and clerks shall be compensated at the rate of eight dollars ($8.00) per hour. The judge who delivers the election returns and election supplies shall be paid an additional twenty-five dollars ($25.00). Section 4. That the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to publish and post, in the time and manner prescribed by law, all notices required to be so published and posted in connection with the conduct of this election.
