MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
January 8, 2008
A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called
to order by Vice-Chair Lux at 7:09 pm

1. Introduction of new board members
Robert Lux was introduced. Sherry Goplin, the other new member was absent for
this meeting.
2. Citizen Input
Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive addressed the board concerning the
Lakeside Arts Center, its usage policy and her concerns for the upkeep and
maintenance and who is responsible for it. She referenced an email from 2005, in
which she had communicated with Dale Cheatham, City Manager.
David Wallis of 4813 North Colony Boulevard and Donna Arnold of 4328 North
Colony Boulevard addressed the board with similar concerns for the Lakeside
Arts Center, and more specifically the administration of different groups using the
facility. Mr. Wallis put forward the idea of "resident groups" and how they might
be addressed in the use policy. The board agreed to look into making
amendments with these concerns in mind.
3. Discussion of use of Lakeside Arts Center (LAC) by American Legion Riders in
April or May
The American L~ion Riders requested use of the LAC for a chili cook-off
Some board mem1>ers voiced concerns regarding safety and wanted to be

reassured that cooking would all be done outside and that the users understand the
limitations of the facility. With those concessions in place, the board approved
the use for the weekend of April 19th and 20th or April 26th and 27th.
4. Discussion and consideration of change of venue for Cultural Arts Board
meetings February - April of 2008.
Liaison Margolis informed the board that the Library conference room would not
be available for CAB meetings from February through April. The board agreed to
meet at the LAC for those months.
5. Election of Cultural Arts Board officers
a. election of Chair
Joan Lux was voted to the position of Chair unanimously.
b. election of Vice Chair
Cindy Marshall was voted to the position of Vice-Chair unanimously.
6. Review and report on Dancers Against Cancer event.
Receipts still needed to be turned in for reimbursement should be given to Liaison
Margolis.
Chair Lux, Vice-Chair Marshall and Member Shailer will be in charge of writing
thank-you letters.
The pros and cons of the program-
Pros:
. Good volunteers
. Good silent auction results
. Good idea
. Good environment for dancers
. Dealings with the copy shop
. Finding willing supporters
Cons:
. Dancers too old (average age)
. Lack of media
. Takes a long time to do right.
