HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/04/98 EDC MINUTES THE COLONY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD MEETING AUGUST 4, 1998 CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM Present were: Gene Cone Randy Robinson John Gordon Richard Seidler Also present: Mayor Watts Sue Walden Tony Johnston Vicki Briggs Jenny Pace Rich Seidler called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Agenda item #3 - Progress Reports Mayor Watts discussed several prospects that she had received from Greater Dallas. She contacted some major developers regarding one of these prospects and has received a couple of proposals. She is giving "the presentation" to Ben Beaird of Greater Dallas on August 5t~ at 8:00 am. Mayor Watts stated that she is still in contact with the prospect from Boston and that The Colony is still in the running. The biggest setback is the proximity to multifamily residence, however, they are now more comfortable with the location. She stated that City Council is aware of this prospect's tax abatement request. Richard Seidler congratulated the Mayor on how well she did giving "the presentation". Mayor Watts stated that The Colony was used to represent the metroplex on a CNN report covering drought conditions, and because of this everyone has their eye on the city. Richard Seidler stated that he is concerned about Council's reaction to the prospect's tax abatement request. Randy Robinson suggested that 4A puts the facts together and gives a presentation to City Council in executive session. Mayor Watts stated that when numbers and information get in the newspaper, it can get twisted. John Gordon wants everyone to hear the same story at the same time. Mayor Watts discussed renewing an ad The Colony has in the Office Guide. Both Randy Robinson and Rich Seidler agreed to continue with it. John Gordon and Randy Robinson discussed making the ad larger, but decided to wait until a Director is in place. Rich Seidler briefed the Board on the Wednesday, August 05, meeting regarding an application for tax incentives. Mayor Watts stated that she is meeting Dick Armey Thursday, 13t~ at 6 p.m. at City Hall for a Town Hall meeting at the high school. Agenda item #5 - Don Goebel presentation
