Lori Harlan, Director of Economic Development for The City of The Colony, is assisting the Library in applying for a TSL Special Projects Grant. The money would be used to purchase a cargo van (for library use only), large print books, and C.D.'s to be used for outreach programs geared toward senior citizens. This would enable the library to better meet the needs of the community. Additional information will be available at the January Board meeting. The library is in the process of switching over to new user setups (individual user names and passwords) on local area network. Some problems are still being experienced. On December 11, 1995, the day the new phone system was installed, two ABENDS occurred. Joan has completed and submitted the 1995 fixed assets inventory. The Library's meeting room will be used for the Republican Primary election on March 12, 1996. If a runoff is required at will be held April 9, 1996. Application for next year's TLA conference in Houston has been submitted. Tax help from A.A.R.P. will be available at the Library the first Tuesday in February through the last Wednesday before tax filing is due. Please review the flyer and application to join TLA included in your packet. There is no obligation to join. However, if you are interested mail in your application for membership. Jan requested input from the Board regarding the handling of a patron. This individual is returning Books on Tape in extremely poor condition. Jan has already spoken with her regarding this problem. The concern is not only damage to the tapes but the possibility of damaging another patron's machine. After extensive discussion it was recommended Jan speak with the patron once again and show her the condition of a tape before it is checked out and the condition of a tape she has returned. This will give her a second chance and hopefully the opportunity to correct the problem without denying her Books on Tape privileges. The "Fine-ally" special was not as successful as hoped. It has not generated the anticipated return on back logged items Pat inquired on the best method for donations to the Library. Jan suggested money instead of books be donated to The Friends of The Colony Library. More items can be obtained at a lower cost through organizational purchasing. Diane asked if the article regarding The Library Board Meeting had been printed in the paper. It was printed in last weeks addition of The Colony Leader under "Calendar of Events." Wal-Mart has made a donation of $350 to The Friends of The Colony Library for their Internet Fund. Quarterly they donate five cents per can of Sam's Soda sold from their vending machines to a non- profit organization. This is the second donation The Friends have received from Wal-Mart. 5. NTRLS System Representative's report. James reported Governor George Bush has signed a grant allocating seven and one half million dollars be spent on schools and an additional seven and one half million dollars be devided between hospitals, schools and libraries for Internet. 6. New Technologies committee report. The new phone system has been installed at the Library and is working fine. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. Diana Kruz~ch, ~air ' ~Sandra K. Vondersaar, Secretary
