HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/27/07 Library MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY September 27, 2007 A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order by Chair Clark at 7:03 p.m. Present: Sandi Gehrke Diana Kruzich Wanda Spears Lorraine Clark Sue Parks Joan Sveinsson Jo Chantrill Jayme Skelton Wayne Bullard 1. Citizens Input. None Absent: Place 1 Place 2 Place 3 Place 4 Place 7 Library Director Secretary Place 5 Place 7 (Personal) (Medical) 2. Minutes: a. Consideration and approval of minutes of the board meeting held on August 23, 2007. The minutes were approved as presented. 3. Discussion and consideration of moving the Board meeting scheduled for November 29, 2007, to a date in early December, due to the conflict with the City volunteer banquet Member Gehrke moved to change the date for the combined November/December Board meeting to Tuesday, December 4,2007, at 7 p.m. The motion was seconded by Member Kruzich and passed unanimously. 4. Library Director's Report a. Status report re: operations. Circulation Supervisor Collins's husband has been hospitalized for a couple of weeks and will be transferred to an acute care hospital to have continued care. Circulation Clerk Sutton's mother passed away; the funeral was held September 21 st. Circulation temps have been scheduled to provide coverage during the resulting staffing shortages. The Librarian Idol contest has concluded and, although we did not win, the publicity created additional visibility for the Library and demonstrated a great deal of support from fellow employees and the community The Library has entered into a friendly competition with Lake Cities Library and Little Elm Public Library for the most new cardholders registered during September, which is National Library Card Signup Month; to date, TCPL is in first place. ChiltonLibrary.com has been added to the Library's online resources, accessible through the Library's TexShare database portal. Testing & Education Reference Center is also being added and will also be available through the portal. NTRLS has notified Director Sveinsson that TCPL has been selected to receive free teen books to give away as reading incentives; these books should arrive in time to give them away during Teen Read Week. d. Update re: Friends of the Library activities. The "Meet the Authors" event held in conjunction with the September book sale was a success; the authors were very pleased and expressed a desire to participate in future events. It will now be held annually in conjunction with the September book sale. Another north Texas library hosts an annual magazine swap run by volunteers. Director Sveinsson plans to propose that TCPL host such an event in conjunction with the March book sale. The next book sale is scheduled for December 1 st, along with the Photos with Santa event.
