HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/09/07 Cultural Arts June 9, 2007, City Hall, 9:10am CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY June 9th, 2007 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Whitmore at 9: lOam Present: Cindy Marshall Neale Whitmore Cynthia Shailer Joan Lux Liz Ripperger Amy Long-Manuel Place 2 Place 3 Place 4 Place 5 Place 6 Place 7 1. Citizen Input Bill Fenton, 5024 Aztec Drive, who is in charge of referees for The Colony Youth Soccer Association, requested use of The Lakeside Arts center for referee training classes for 2 weekends in the summer. The board agreed to consider the proposal and made suggestions for alternative meeting places to Mr. Fenton. Christi Martin, 5604 Longhorn Drive, requested that a board member volunteer to sit on a building committee of which she is a member. This committee is working on proposals for an arts and/or multi-purpose building in The Colony. The next meeting will be on June 25th. The committee meets regularly on the first Monday of each month. 2. Minutes Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held May 16, 2007 and of the Cultural Arts Board special session held on May 30, 2007. The Minutes were approved as presented. 3. Discussion of possible upcoming arts events The Lakeside Arts Foundation will hold a yard sale fundraiser on June 23rd June 9, 2007, City Hall, 9: lOam 4. Discussion and planning of Dancers Against Cancer event The event has been approved by City Council with a budget of $3000. Member Shailer will begin process of confirming The Colony High School facility for the event. Members Shailer and Ripperger will make a list of local studios to submit to the Dancers Against Cancer organization (DAC) for possible participants. Member Shailer will compile (with input from all board members) a list oflocal businesses to submit to DAC as possible silent auction donors. 5. Discussion and consideration of further action regarding ballet event This item was tabled. 6. Discussion and consideration of rate structure for Cultural Arts Center fees and deposits. This item was tabled, although Liaison Margolis will compose a letter to the current occupants to solicit any ideas and input they might have.
