HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/21/95 Library Board MINUTES OF TEE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY SEPTEMBER 21, 1995 A WORK SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony Texas, was called to order by Vice-Chair Kruzich at 7:30 p.m. Present: Diana Kruzich Place 2 Jayme Skelton Place 5 Pat Riggs Alternate 1 Wayne Bullard Alternate 2 Joan Sveinsson Library Director Absent: James Althaus Place 3 Dorian Barton Place 4 1. Discussion of goals, objectives, and a long range plan for library development. Members of the Board reviewed the materials prepared for the joint work session with City Council scheduled for September 25, 1995. Member Bullard is working with Reference Librarian Janet Sapp to prepare an estimate of when the library's collection will meet the maximum shelving capacity of the current facility. The collection currently takes up 78.6 percent of the maximum shelving capacity; the average growth of the collection over the past five years has been 8 percent per year. Other information to be presented includes the growth in usage since opening of the current facility. The main goal to be presented is to work with City Council and the community to develop a long-range plan to enable the Library to keep pace with the community's needs, enhance the quality of life for the taxpayers, and be reflective of the cultural integrity of the come, unity. Objectives toward that goal include planning for emerging technologies, space to accommodate patrons, materials, and technology, a customer-service oriented facility, which could also be a multi-purpose cultural facility to service all age groups.
