1. Discussion of goals, objectives, and a long range plan for
library development.
Members of the Board reviewed the materials prepared for the
joint work session with City Council scheduled for September 25,
1995.
Member Bullard is working with Reference Librarian Janet Sapp
to prepare an estimate of when the library's collection will meet
the maximum shelving capacity of the current facility. The
collection currently takes up 78.6 percent of the maximum shelving
capacity; the average growth of the collection over the past five
years has been 8 percent per year.
Other information to be presented includes the growth in
usage since opening of the current facility.
The main goal to be presented is to work with City Council
and the community to develop a long-range plan to enable the
Library to keep pace with the community's needs, enhance the
quality of life for the taxpayers, and be reflective of the
cultural integrity of the come, unity. Objectives toward that goal
include planning for emerging technologies, space to accommodate
patrons, materials, and technology, a customer-service oriented
facility, which could also be a multi-purpose cultural facility to
service all age groups.
