1.
Citizen Input
I
Christi Martin of 5604 Longhorn Drive spoke to the board about several matters.
First, Ms. Martin reported on the Lakeside Community Theater's (LCT)
production of "Dial M for Murder". The production went well, despite some
technical problems.
Second, she reported that the LCT has committed to doing fewer productions next
year in exchange for increased, aggressive fundraising to raise money for a
facility.
Ms. Martin announced the public hearing of the Community Development
Corporation that will be held on November 9th at 7pm in the Municipal Court
Room. She plans to bring up the building issue at this hearing.
2. Minutes
Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held
October 14,2006.
I
The minutes were amended to read that the Mayor would be contacted about
investigating the availability of the high school for the New York City Ballet
event, not board member Shailer. The minutes were approved as amended.
3. Discussion of possible upcoming arts events
None.
4.
Discussion and review of usage policy for Lakeside Arts Center
I
Item will be discussed thoroughly at a work session, most likely to be held in
January, to be scheduled after the holiday season.
5. Discussion of sculptures in conjunction with 4B board and Historical Committee
Don Beckel from the 4B Board was present. Mr. Beckel explained that the board
is looking at improvements of the Historical Park and at the overall history of the
area. He discussed the parallels between the original settlement and the
settlement of the 1970' s.
The board is looking at for a design to pull Historical Park, Greenway Park and
Perryman Park together to form a "historical area," and they would like to
incorporate public art, including sculpture and a water feature. They are asking
CAB to help participate with the sculpture.
Chair Whitmore suggested that a CAB member serve on the sub-committee that
oversees the project. Chair Whitmore also pointed out that any public art would
need final approval from the City Council.
Chair Whitmore spoke of possibly conducting a contest, perhaps among
university students.
I
Vice-chair Lux pointed out that this project is a good opportunity to strengthen
arts visibility.
The meeting adjourned at 10: 15 a.m.
