HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/13/1982 Parks Board I I I Parks and Recreation Board Meeting of October 13, The Parks and Recreation Board ~~~2called to order by Chairman Frohardt on the 13th of October 1982 with members Orme, Alternate Ashman, Turner, and former member Haas present. With Director Herold also being present... Herold briefed the Board on the current status of the park grants. Herold said that although Jim Eagle Turf got a late start, they have bent over backwards to try to help the city. At Turner Street Corrununity Park they applied 4 times the spriggs as called for on the specifications. The city was prepared to rye Turner Street to pro- tect the bermuda. At Bridges Park, there are still some areas that will need sprigging, but they will come back next spring at the de- scretion of The Colony PARD Director. Member Ashman was concerned about Turner Street Community Park and is waiting for some heavy rains to look at the drainage situation B. Board glanced at the playground equipment that was proposed for the park grants. Director Herold said due to the cost, they Would not have to go out to bid. All members presect looked at the equipment and expressed approval. C. Herold briefed the Council of the hiring of new employee ,Terry Van-Yo No action was taken. D. Ricahrd Frohardt presented Richard Haas a plague for his out- standing service to the PARD Board. Director Herold praised Haas calling him a man of vision and someone who helped keep the goals of the department at the forefront of operations. Mr. Haas thank- ed the Board and said he would continue to be around to assist the Board and would be lOOking into other areas to ossist the department. Directors Report: Herold said the meeting next month would be impor- tant in that he will bring to the Board proposed fee charges for their support. Chairman Frohardt briefed the Board on the trip to Waco, to attend the State Texas Recreation and Park Society Convention. Board Chairman Frohardt said he made preliminary feelers to the LISD tCJ check about the possibli ty of The Colony PAHD getting the playground equipment at the LISD offices. Frohardt aSKed for a motion that Director Herold follow up on this: Director Herold should notify the City Manager and they should go thru the necessary steps to secure if Possible, the LISD playground equip- men t . Motion made by Ashman, 2nd by Turner..passed unamiously The Board then talked about the vandalism in the parks and steps that could be taken to help eLiminate the problem. Herold said he was work- ing on an innovative program called "PARK PRIDE..I TAKE TIME"" Herold talked about problems experienced at Bridges and Member Orme briefed the Board about problems at Lions Club Park, especially with the water fountain. Meeting adjourned at 9:11PM.
