HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/10/1981 Parks Board I I I CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS JUNE 10, 1981 A REGULAR MEETING of the Park and Recreation Board was called to order at 8:30 PM, with the following members present: Richard Haas Earl Brantley Barbara Sanchez Member Member Member with Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Recreation also present. I. Minutes Minutes were not available II. Citizens Input No Citizens input III. Directors Report a. Director Herold thouroughly briefed Board on the status of the park grants. The Board discussed the bids that had been received, and agreed that the bid from Randall and Blake, Inc. was the best and lowest bid. b. Member Sanchez asked about the kind and form of the playground equipment at the two parks. Director Herold responded that Timberform was the make of the equipment the department was currently looking in to. c. Member Brantley asked for a clairification on who would pay for any of the inspections for the park grants. d. The Board asked the director to check into tree removal at Turner Street Park so the park grants can proceed at the fastest possible pace. The Board also requested that the director check with Interim City Manager Carroll to check on any legality concerning an individual getting the wood for sale. e. The Board asked the Director to contmnue to look into the Stewarts Creek Park annexation possibility. Director Herold told the Board a meeting has already been scheduled with the Lake manager, Gary McKean. IV. Correspondence No correspondence was presented. V. Old Business a. Member Haas made the following suggestions concerning the naming of the Park Grant fields: no parks should be named for living persons, no contest should be held I to name the parks, it should be done as soon as possible. b. Member Haas continued to ask for water and electricity at city parks as to better utilize the concession van. Member Haas suggests that post-mix will increase profits. c. After a short discussion, the Board suggested the following names: T.P.L.--Powerline Park, South of Arbor Glen--Arbor Glen Park, Historical Park--Colony Historical Park, North Colony Park--The Athletic Complex, North Colony Grant Park-- North Colony Park. Member Haas also asked the director to check into the history of John S. Yates Park. VI. New Business a. Discussion was held on the softball complex at Arbor Glen. Member Brantley suggested that he check into getting the lowest possible cost. Director Herold was asked to check with Tom Cravens of Fox and Jacobs to receive report on development time projected. I b. The Board brought up the subject to charging fees for park useage to non-residents. The board asked the director to look with area cities and report back at the next meeting. VII.
