HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/25/1981 Parks Board City of The Colony Denton County, Texas I March 25, 1981 A WORK SESSION of the Park and Recreation Board was called to order with the following members present: Richard Frohardt Earl Brantley Chairman Member Vince Ashman Alternate with Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Recreation, and Keith Lenz, John Salomoni of the Soccer Association and Charlie Parker of the Baseball Association and Mike Stachowicz of the Softball Association present. Member Sanchez and Member Haas were not present, Member Seidler was also not present. 1. Chairman Frohardt called the meeting to order and wel- comed the Sports Association Members. 2. Citizens Input No citizens present 3. Directors Report I Director Herold reported that our mower had been purchased, also two part-time employees had been hired and would start on the 1st. of April. 4. Work Session was opened to the floor for a question and answer seSSlon. A member of the Sports Association asked about the use equipment and Mr. Herold said we would have to go thru J:vlr. Bradburry of the Community Development Department. Mr. Herold briefly explained the budgeting system for the Parks and Recreation Department. He asked that the Associations start thinking of what their needs for sports fields, etc would be for a year, three years, and five year plans, so that this would be considered in the budgeting of Parks and Recreation. I 5. Mr. Herold also gave a brief on the park site. he ex- plained that the Turner Street Park would have other Facilities then ball and soccer fields. He and Member Brantley went over the plans with board and members of associations. They pointed out various locations for proposed soccer and ball fields, as well as the locations of the tennis courts. Also showed proposed concession stand, restrooms, bleachers and a layout of the sprinkler system. A general discussion was lead from the board and association members on the size's of the soccers and ball fields. I ~ Work Session The question was asked by a member of bhe association who was going to determine condition of fields for use. Mr. Herold said he hopes that the different sports associations will all work together in this and know when not to use the fields. Each group will have to help with enforcing field regulation on the use and care of the fields when wet. Also will have to help with the parking. Keith Lenz said that the soccer association had inserted in their rule books parking rules and field use and care. He said that each team manager was responsible for seeing that these rules were enforced. It was suggested that perhaps the other associations also make a similiar addtion to their rule books on parking and care of fields. Someone asked how many cars could park in the parking lot's set aside on these fields. Mr. Herold said he thought easily 45 to 90 cars on most of the lots. Chairman Frohardt had a request from Board Member Haas to put before the athletic Associations the possibility of permanent Sports Association made up of citizens of our cornmunity to be able to go before city council to present future needs for our parks and sports fields. when needed. One member said that he felt citizen involvement was needed, and this would be a good way of getting it.' Chairman Frohardt also said he would like for the Sports Associations to be thinking of any particular needs we may foresee for future fields and sports.. A development of practice fields on the easements was discussed after Keith Lenz asked if it were possible to use the easements for practice fields..Parking was also discus~ed in relation to these areas. ..Mr. Herold said that a Park and Recreation Ordinace would soon be coming and that an ordinance would be included on the parking facilities also.. A general discussion followed on maintenance of the parks and fields..A discussion was bought up on the possibilities of the orginazations sharing a building on keeping equipment for the various fields..Mr. Herold also bought up the use of beer on the fields..Mr. Herold said he would like to see beer, etc; prohibited on the sports fields.. A general discussion was talked about on the purchase of more la~d and a possibility of expansion to Stewarts Creek for more park sltes. Meeting was adjourned at 10:30Pm... .
