HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/10/1980 Parks Board CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS DECEMBER 10, 1980 I A REGULAR MEETING of the Park and Recreation Board was called to order with the following members present: Richard Forhardt Richard Haas Earl Brantley Chairman Member Member with Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Recreation present and Members Diane Kovar, Barbara Sanchez and Alternate Vincent Ashman absent. I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes were not available for approval. II. CITIZEN'S INPUT There were no citizens present. III. DIRECTOR'S REPORT CETA PROGRAM I Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Recreation, reported that he had heard from Ceta and that we had been refused as there were not enough funds. He mentioned that Denton had been refused Ceta funds. Mr. Herold said that there were around 40 cities in Denton County that had applied for Ceta funds. Mr. Herold had made a presenta- tion to the Ceta Board. He said that there were twenty- five members on the review board and that none of them were from The Colony. SPORTS FIELD POLICY Mr. Herold reported that he had presented the Sports Field Policy to the City Council and that they ques- tioned what process and input the Parks and Recreation Board had made. Mr. Herold said that they were impressed with the Public Hearing held allowing the different sports associations to have their ideas heard and granted the Park and Recreation Board the authority to make up their proposals and if the City Council didn't agree than they would let the Park and Recreation Board know. I SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Herold told the Board about the serious facility problems he was having for meetings for~ot only the senior citizens but the teen scene and if we were to provide activities for the physically handicapped that we really don't have an area to hold these meetings in. III. Director's. Report Cont. SENIOR CITIZENS Mr. Herold did say that we would provide transportation to those who would like to go to the Denton Senior Citizens meetings or facilities. He extended an invitation to the Park and Recreation Board to attend the Senior Citizen's Christmas Party to be held December 18th at the LaPetite on Branch Hollow at 7:00 p.m. He also mentioned that one of our residents, Mr. McGovern, had a list of Senior Citizens. I TEEN SCENE Mr. Herold reported that this group had expanded to 20-25 members and they were having a problem finding a place for them to meet. They meet every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. He said that they were going to the SMU football game on Sunday. SPECIAL EVENTS Mr. Herold praised the turn out and success of both the Miss Colony Contes and the Turkey Trot. He commended the work of David Christensen on the Turkey Trot. Mr. Christensen coordinated the Turkey Trot for Mr. Herold. Mr. Christensen was working on a Scout Badge. I WELCOMING THE NEW MEMBERS Mr. Herold congratulated Member Richard Haas for becoming a full member of the Park and Recreation Board as Mr. Haas was an Alternate. He also welcomed Mr. Earl Brantley to our Park and Recreation Board. He went on to say that Mr. Brantley was a member of the Lion's Club and he had worked with him with the Flea Market and Chili Cook-off. He also said that Barbara Sanchez was the other new Member of the Park and Recreation Board but she could not be with us due to a class that she had to finish. PARK GRANTS There was a general discussion on the Park Grants to brief Member Brantley and it was noted that when we received new plats of the different parks that the new members would be sent a copy. Member Brantley asked Chairman Forhardt if the city lacked Park sites. There was a general discussion on what we had and what would be needed in this area in the future. Member Brantley asked if all of South of Arbor Glen would be sports fields? Chairman Forhardt said that they would have to attend the next Sports Federation Meeting and have a discussion on this. The next Sports Federation Meeting would be in January. I IV. I I I NEW 'BUSINESS Chairman Frohardt and Rick Herold brought up the need to go over old ordinances concerning the Park and Recreation area. There was a general discussion on the need to review and amend these ordinances, as they contradicted one another. The meeting was ajourned at 10:30 p.m.
