HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/11/06 Cultural Arts I CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY March 11, 2006 A REGULAR SESSION ofthe Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Whitmore at 9: 14 am. Present: Neale Whitmore Cynthia Shailer Christi Martin Amy Long-Manuel Joan Lux Place 3 Place 4 (arrived @ 9:25 am) Place 6 Place 7 Place 5 Absent: Cyndi Parker Dick Ledesma Place 1 Place 2 I 1. Citizen Input Vice Chair Martin read aloud her letter of resignation. 2. Minutes Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held March 11, 2006. The minutes were approved as presented. 3. Discussion of possible upcoming arts events None. 4. Discussion of Cultural Arts Board involvement in SailFair I Vice Chair Martin informed the board that the Chamber of Commerce is holding a meeting about SailFair on Monday evening (3/13). SailFair is to be held October 20th at Stewart's Creek Park. The board wishes to be involved, and will decide on more specifics as plans for the fair develop. Member Long-Manuel suggested a kids' craft booth. 5. Discussion of formation of public art committee Chair Whitmore stated that the Cultural Arts Board has no budget for such pursuits (including ability to give grants) and that we are not yet at the stage to form a committee. 6. Building update Vice Chair Martin informed the board that the Lakeside Community Theater would be meeting on Monday night (3/13) to discuss whether or not to continue using the Lakeside Arts Center (LAC), and what can be done to get Denton County to bring the building up to code. Member Shailer inquired whether the monies set aside for the arts by the city could be used for bringing the LAC building up to code. Chair Whitmore expressed a need to go before council to redefine Cultural Arts Board's purpose, especially as it coincided with the civic center project.
