HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 06-030 CITY OF THE COLONY RESOLUTION NO. 06 -d53~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY STATING THE CITY'S REQUEST TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT SPEED LIMITS ON STATE HIGHWAY 121 AND TO REQUEST A TRAFFIC STUDY AFTER ALL FRONTAGE ROADS ARE COMPLETE WHEREAS, the City has received a request from the Texas Department of Transportation to adopt an ordinance increasing the speed limit on State Highway 121 from 55 to 60 miles per hour; and WHEREAS, the layout and operating dynamics of the highway have changed significantly since data was collected as part of a speed study analysis conducted by TxDOT in January 2005; and, WHEREAS, further significant changes in State Highway 121 operations are planned to occur over the next two years; and, WHEREAS, motorists' behaviors very likely have changed as a result of previous and planned modifications in roadway infrastructure, thereby making January 2005 data observations obsolete. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, 6800 MAIN STREET, THE COLONY TEXAS, 75056; Section 1. That the Texas Department of Transportation officials are encouraged to maintain the State Highway 121 speed limit at 55 miles per hour until construction is completed. Section 2. That the City Council requests postponement of further speed studies along this highway segment until both new highway frontage roads are placed into full operation.
