HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/09/05 Cultural Arts I CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY April 9, 2005 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Whitmore at 9:17 a.m. Present: Dick Ledesma Neale Whitmore Cynthia Shailer Joan Lux Christi Martin Place 2 Place 3 Place 4 Place 5 Place 6 Absent: Cyndi Parker Place 1 (arrived 9:30 am) I. Citizen input None 2. Minutes a. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held March 12, 2005 I The minutes were approved as presented. 3. Discussion and consideration of allowing Noel Tardy to use the Lakeside Arts Center for Ukulele Club meetings on the third Wednesday evening of every month, and future consideration for additional use Bob Sparkman spoke as the representative of the Ukulele Club. He passed out a letter explaining that the club was looking for a permanent home. He said the club needed only one room. Member Martin moved to accept the request for the Ukulele Club to use the Lakeside Arts Center on the third Wednesday of the month in the evening. Member Lux seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Discussion and consideration of recommended usage guidelines for ArtsN eterans building The Board discussed what would be needed in an application form. Chair Whitmore presented usage guidelines for the Lakeside Arts Center. Member Martin moved that the Board accept these usage guidelines as a template. Member Shailer seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. I 5. Discussion of possible upcoming arts events John Brady from the Frisco Area Children's Theater discussed his theater's upcoming production of The Princess and the Pea. He also mentioned that the Frisco Area Children's Theater would be holding acting classes for the summer. Member Martin spoke about using the Fun Times publication for publicity for future events. Member Shailer stated that she wants Lakeside Arts Center events to focus on the area of The Colony. 6. Discussion of progress of planned Civic Center Chair Whitmore described the current plan as "workable". Member Martin mentioned the desirability of a raised technical booth for events.
