A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS
SUPPORTING A PROPOSED RAIL ROUTE BY THE DENTON COUNTY TRANSPORTATION
AUTHORITY (DCTA), BASED UPON AN ALTERNATIVE ANALYSIS, THAT WOULD USE THE
KCS RAIL ROUTE THROUGH THE CITY OF HIGHLAND VILLAGE; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the voters in the City of Highland Village joined with the voters in the cities of Lewisville and
Denton in passing the one-half cent Sales Tax to help fund the Denton County Transportation Authority
(DCT A) commuter rail system; and
WHEREAS, an Alternative Analysis is a planning study being conducted under the guidance of the Federal
Transit Administration that helps determine the best solution for transportation problems in a study corridor;
and,
WHEREAS, this Alternative Analysis is examining transportation options in the roughly 25 mile corridor
between downtown Denton and downtown Carrollton, including the 1-35 corridor, the former MKT railroad
corridor that parallels 1-35 to the east, and the KCS railroad line that crosses the MKT line on the north side of
Lewisville; and
WHEREAS, the City of Highland Village would like to directly benefit from their participation in the DCT A
through enhanced economic development of the City and service to riders by providing a rail route through
Highland Village.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE
COLONY, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of The Colony supports a proposed rail route by the DCT A that
would use the KCS rail route through the City of Highland Village.
Section 2. That the City Council requests that the KCS railroad line that crosses the MKT line on the north
side of Lewisville and runs through the City of Highland Village be the recommended route for the DCT A
commuter rail.
Section 3.
That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage.
