HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/18/04 Cultural Arts Board CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS M~TESOFTHECULTURALARTSBOARD OF THE I CITY OF THE COLONY September 18, 2004 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Present: Cyndi Parker Place 1 Carolyn Rapisarda Place 2 Neale Whitmore Place 3 Christi Martin Place 6 Absent: Lori Hill Place 7 1. Citizen input Dick Ledesma, 4000 Steepleridge, stated that he would like to teach art classes for both children and adults at the proposed new building. Mr. Ledesma also stated that he was interested in serving on the Cultural Arts Board. The Board informed him that Board members are appointed by City Council, who will hold interviews in the coming months. I 2. Election of Acting Chair Member Martin moved that Member Whitmore be elected as Acting Chair. Member Parker seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 3. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held August 14,2004 The minutes were approved as presented 4. Discussion of possible City banner project Member Rapisarda stated that she has nothing new to report. 5. Discussion and consideration of possible Cultural Arts Board oversight of Dick Weaver building. Liaison Boykin reported that the Cultural Arts Board had been asked for input on suggested operating procedures for the ArtsNeterans Building (former Dick Weaver Senior Center). She then distributed an e-mail from Parks and Recreation Director Pam Nelson that outlined some questions about building usage, along with e-mails from Council Member McCourry and City Manager Dale Cheatham encouraging the Cultural Arts Board to submit suggested building usage guidelines to the City Council. The Board I discussed the possibility of holding a work session with City Manager Dale Cheatham in order to clarify details about how the building would operate, such as keys and staffing. Board Members also discussed the safety issues involved with having cleaning crews working around electronic equipment.
