AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY AMENDING
CHAPTER 14 PARKS AND RECREATION; AMENDING
SECTION 14-1 DEFINITIONS AND SECTION 14-2 PARK AND
RECREATION BOARD; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY,
SEVERABILITY AND SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE OF THE CITY OF THE
COLONY, TEXAS:
Section 1. That Chapter 14 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of The Colony, is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 14-1 Definitions.
Shall be amended by adding the following definition:
"Special event shall mean an event to be held within the town, that is
of limited duration and is likely to attract visitors. Examples of special events include
(without limitation) exhibition, automobile races, sporting events, festivals, air shows
and parades. "
Sec. 14-2 Park and recreation board.
Shall be amended in the following particulars:
Sec. 14-2 (b) Duties of the park and recreation board shall be as follows:
(2) To serve in an advisory capacity concerning "special events, recreation programs and
activities" and the acquisition, maintenance, operation and use of parks, playground,
and open spaces within the city.
Section 4. Severability. The sections, paragraphs, sentences, phrases, clauses and
words of this Ordinance are severable, and if any section, paragraph, sentence, phrase, clause or
word in this Ordinance or application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid or
unconstitutional by a Court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the validity
of the remaining portions of this Ordinance, and the City Council hereby declares that it would
have passed such remaining portions of this Ordinance despite such invalidity, which remaining
portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 6. Savings. That Chapter 14, Parks and Recreation, of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of The Colony as amended shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 7. Effective date. This Ordinance shall become effective from and after its date
of adoption and publication as provided by law.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas,
this the 17th day of June 2002.
