HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 66ORDINANCE NO. 66 AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY PROVIDING WATER RATIONING ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY; PROVIDING A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED ($200.00) DOLLARS FOR EACH OFFENSE; PROVIDING FOR DISCONNECTION IN THE EVENT OF VIOLATION; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, The City of The Colony is experiencing a serous temporary shortage of water; and WHEREAS, such shortage has created an emergency situation requiring the City Council to promulgate temporary rules re- gulating the use of water by citizens of the District during the peak periods of water usage, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Regulation of Use of Water. A. Water may not be used to water lawns nor may any other use outside of the house be made of water on any Saturday by any person at any house the street address of which is an even number. B. Water may not be used to water lawns nor may any other use outside of the house be made of water on any Sunday by any person at any house the street address of which is an odd number. SECTION 2. Any person violating any provision of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not more than $200 dollars for each violation. SECTION 3. In addition, water service to any person violating this Ordinance or to any house at which a violation of this Ordinance occurs may be disconnected by Municipal Utility District personnel immediately and without notice. In the event in discontinuance due to a violation of this rule, all rules and regulations of the District regarding reconnection of water service and prohibiting tampering with the water system shall be applicable. SECTION 4. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be effective five days after the publica- tion hereof as provided in SECTION 3.11 of the Charter shall remain in effect for sixty days (60) unless sooner repealed. SECTION 5. The shortage of water creates an emergency in the preservation of the public health and welfare and re- quires that this Ordinance be passed as an emergency Ordinance in accordance with SECTION 3.11 of the Charter.
