AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR
THE APPOINTMENT AND REGULATION OF CIVILIAN SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS;
PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF FINE NOT TO EXCEED THE SUM OF T110 HUN-
DRED DOLLARS ($200.00) FOR EACH OFFENSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to
appoint special officers, to be known as civilian crossing guards,
in such numbers as he may deem necessary, to regulate traffic in
designated school zones during such hours as he may deem appro-
priate, to aid school children in crossing streets. The civilian
crossing guards shall be trained in and shall use standard police
signals and gestures to direct traffic in the vicinity of the
school zones.
SECTION 2.
The civilian crossing guards shall wear such badges, dress
and insignia as the Chief of Police shall direct, and shall be e-
quipped in the manner he deems necessary for the proper discharge of
their duties. Such badges, dress and insignia shall be provided to
the civilian crossing guards by the City. The civilian crossing
guards shall be paid such compensation as the City Council shall
provide from time to time.
SECTION 3.
It shall be unlawful for any civilian crossing guard to
exercise his authority as such or to wear his uniform or insignia,
or to display his badge, in an attempt to exercise his authority,
except during the performance of his actual duties and as may be
directed by the Chief of Police.
SECTION 4.
It shall be unlawful for any person not duly appointed
and sworn in as a civilian crossing guard to impersonate a civilian
crossing guard, or to wear, carry, or display the badge, the des-
ignated dress, or insignia of a civilian crossing guard.
SECTION 5.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordin-
ance shall, upon conviction in the Municipal Court of the City of
the Colony, Texas, be subject to a fine in an amount not to exceed
the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) for each offense.
SECTION 6.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and
after its passage and the publication of the caption, as the law
in such cases provides.
