AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR
THE DESIGNATION OF SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONES; PROVIDING A r1AXIMUM LAW-
FUL PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMIT OF TWENTY (20) MILES PER HOUR IN DES-
IGNATED SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONES; PROVIDING FOR THE ERECTION OF SIGNS;
PROVIDING SCHOOL TRAFFIC ZONES ON COLONY BOULEVARD, ON BLAIR OAKS
ROAD AND ON ARBOR GLEN ROAD; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF FINE NOT
TO EXCEED THE SUM OF TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) FOR EACH OFFENSE;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DA'L'E.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY,
TEXAS:

Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation,
the City Council of the City of the Colony finds that certain areas
within the City should be designated school traffic zones.
SECTION 2.
It shall be unlawful and an offense for any person to
operate or drive any motor vehicle at a speed greater than twenty
(20) miles per hour in any school traffic zone, when appropriate
signs as required herein are in place, between the hours of 7:30 a.m.
to 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during, school days, and during
such hours such speed shall be the prima facie lawful maximum speed
limit and any evidence of any speed in excess thereof shall be prima
facie evidence that such speed is not reasonable or prudent under
the circumstances then existing, and is unlawful.
SECTION 3.
The following locations are hereby established and desig-
nated as school traffic zones, to -wit:
A. Colony Boulevard from a point 25' West of its
intersection with Alta Oaks Lane to a point 200' East of the
point of its intersection with Blair Oaks Road.
B. Blair Oaks Road from a point 100' North of the
point of its intersection with Colony Boulevard to a point 20'
South of the point of its intersection with Arbor Glen Road.
C. Arbor Glen Road from a point 25' East of the point of
its intersection with Ash Glen Lane to a point 100' East of
the point of its intersection with Blair Oaks Road.
SECTION 5.
The Public Works Director or his duly authorized repre-
sentative is directed to place appropriate signs, lights and mark-
ings to designate the school traffic zones, the hours and the s~)eed
limits as set out in this ordinance. It shall be unlawful for any
person to move, remove, deface or destroy any signs, signals or
markings erected to designate a school traffic zone, provided, how-
ever, that the provisions of this Section shall not apply to the
Public Works Director of the City or his duly authorized representa-
tive.
SECTION G.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordin-
ance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction
in the Municipal Court of the City of the Colony, Texas, be subject
to a fine not to exceed the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00)
for each offense.
SECTION 7.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and
after its passage and the publication of the caption as the law in
such cases provides, except that no speed limit established hereby
shall be effective until appropriate signs are erected giving motor-
ists notice of such speed limit, the time and location thereof.
