ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY BY
AMENDING CHAPTER 9, BY AMENDING ARTICLE II RELATING TO
THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS:
Section 1. That Chapter 9, Article II of the Code of Ordinances of the City of The
Colony shall be and is hereby amended in the following particulars:
"ARTICLE II. COMBINATION FIRE DEPARTMENT
Sec. 9-20 - ESTABLISHED
A career and volunteer fire department to be known as "The Colony Fire
Department" is hereby established.
Sec. 9-21 - CHIEF TO HEAD DEPARTMENT
The fire chief shall be the administrative and operational head of the career
and volunteer fire department. The chief shall work under the direction of the city
manager.
Sec. 9-22 - COMPOSITION
The volunteer fire department shall be composed of personnel who have volunteered
to join the organization and whose applications for membership have been accepted and
approved by the fire chief and who have complied with all the rules, regulations and orders
for the conduct and control of the members thereof.
Sec. 9-23 - APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
Application for membership in the volunteer fire department shall be filed with the
department. Such application shall be on a form prescribed by the fire chief. All volunteer
members must reside with the city limits of the City of The Colony.
Sec. 9-24 - SELECTION OF MEMBERS
Selection of candidates for the career and volunteer fire department shall be as
follows:
which remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 3. The fact that the present ordinances and regulations of the City of the
Colony, Texas, are inadequate to properly safeguard the health, safety, morals, peace, and
general welfare of the inhabitants of the City of The Colony, Texas, creates an emergency
for the immediate preservation of the public business, property, health, safety, and general
welfare of the public which requires that this ordinance become effective from and after the
date of its passage and it is accordingly so ordained.
