AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY~ TEXAS AMENDING
TEE ]988 UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE~ AS ADOPTED; AMENDING
SECTION 6-5 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF THE
COLONY~ TEXAS BY ADDING SECTION 6-5 (]) RELATING TO WATER
CONSERVATION; REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF WATER
CONSERVING DEVICES IN NEW CONSTRUCTION AND CERTAIN
RECONSTRUCTION; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE;
PROVIDING AN EMERGENCY; AND ~ROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS~ the City Council of the City of The Colony has
deemed it necessary to amend the Uniform Plumbing Code of ]988 as
adopted by the City Council to require certain water saving devices
to be installed in all new construction and certain additions or
conversions to existing structures for the purpose of conserving
water .
WHEREAS~ the City Council of the City of The Colony has
determined that these requirements should become effective on
October ], ]99].
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY~
TEXAS:
Section ]. That Section 6-5 of the Code of Ordinances of
the City of The Colony be and is hereby amended by amending the
Uniform Plumbing Code of 1988 as adopted; by adding Section 6-5
(]), and shall read as follows:
Section 6-5 (]) Water Conservation.
(a) Maximum Flow Rates - The following maximum flow rates
and/or water usage standards shall apply for fixtures in:
]. any new building or structure or portions thereof;
2. additions to existing buildings that provide
facilities or shelter for public assembly, education,
business, mercantile, institutional, or residential
occupancy; and
3. hotels, motels, condominiums~ day care centers,
nursing homes, and apartments.
(b) Tank type water closets shall provide a maximum flush not
to exceed 3.5 gallons.
(c) Shower heads shall have a maximum flow which does not
exceed three gpm at pressure ranges from 20 to 80 psig.
(d) Lavatory and kitchen faucets shall be equipped with flow
controllers, aerators or spray taps which result in a maximum
delivery not to exceed 2.75 gpm ( + .25 gpm) at pressure ranges
from 20 to 80 psig when both hot and cold water supply are in full
after the date of its passage and it is accordingly so ordained.
