CITY OF TIlE COLONY, TEXAS AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TIlE COLONY, TEXAS, ORDERING AN ELECTION OF TIlE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF SAID CITY ON THE FOURTH DAY OF · APRIL, 1987, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, AND THREE COUNCILMEMBERS FOR SAID CITY WHEREAS, the term of office of the Mayor, and three (3) councilmembers presently on the City Council expires April 4, 1987; and WHEREAS, it is hereby found and determined by the Mayor, acting in his official capacity, and the City CU~ncil acting as the governing body of the City that it is in the best interest of the City and its citizens to hold an election for the purpose of electing a Mayor, and four (4) Councilmembers to tile City Council Places 1, 2 and 4; and WHEREAS, Vernon's Ann. Civ. St., Art. 978 authorizes such election; and WHEREAS, V.A.T.S. Election Code, Art. 2.01b specifies the date on which such elections may be held; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY TIIE CITY COUNCIL OF TIlE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: Section 1. That a general election be held in and throughout the City of The Colony, Texas on Saturday, April 4, 1987, for the purpose of electing a Mayor, and three (3) Councilmembers to serve on the City Council Places 1, 2 and 4; and Section 2. That the City election precincts for this election shall consist of the territory situated within tl~e various Denton County election precincts located within the corporate limits of the City and bearing the following numbers, and the polling place and officers of said election shall be as follows, to wit: DENTON CO. ABSENTEE BALLOT BOARD PRESIDING JUDGE Kay Einig The Presiding Judge shall appoint not less than two (2) nor more than six (6) qualified election clerks to serve and assist in the conduct of the election, providing that if the Presiding Judge named above actually serves as expected, the Alternate Presiding Judge shall be one of such clerks. By passing this Ordinance, the City Council of said City approves and concurs in the appointment of the aforesaid election officers. Section 3. That voting at and on the date of said electi~l~ shall be by paper ballot or by any other method as approved the Texas Election Code, as amended, and said ballots shall be printed in accordance with the Texas Election Code, as amended. Section 4. No person's name shall be placed o~ the ballot as a candidate for the position of Mayo~ or Councilmember of thc, City Council until such person has filed his/her swo~.'~ application and affidavit as provided by the laws of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of The Colony, Texas with City Secretary at least, forty-five (45) days prior to election date. Section 5. All eligible City of The Colony voters shall cast their ballots at 'the a.forement.i, oned Polling Places. polls shall be open between 7:00 o'clock a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on April 4, 1987. Section 6. As to absentee voting for said election, paper ballots shall be used, and such absentee voting shall be conducted by the City Secretary, who is hereby appointed Clerk for Absentee Voting, at the City Secretary's Office at City Hall, City of The Colony, Texas. Section 7. The election materials enumerated in V.A.T.S. Election Code, Art. 1.0Sa, shall be printed in both English and Spanish for use at the polling place and for absentee vo['.i~g said election.
