HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 77-02 RESOLUTION 77-02 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS RECOMMENDING TO THE COMMISSIONER'S COURT OF THE COUNTY OF DENTON, STATE OF TEXAS, THAT A COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL CENTER BE ESTABLISHED AND OPERATED ON A CONTRACTUAL BASIS WITH EACH COMMUNITY WITHIN THE COUNTY PAYING FOR ITS USE OF THE FACILITY ON A PRO-RATA BASIS. WHEREAS, the City of The Colony, Texas, situated in the County of Denton, State of Texas, is concerned with the overpopulation of animals and the growing problem they present to our city and other communities within the county; and WHEREAS, the overpopulation of both dogs and cats has led to increasing numbers of stray animals which roam freely within the cities and countryside constituting a nuisance and health hazard, and WHEREAS, the strays create increased possibility of animal carried disease such as rabies and distemper for both humans and pets; and WHEREAS, the City of The Colony, Texas and other small towns, are unable to finance and maintain an animal control center which will meet humane standards; and WHEREAS, the County of Denton is in a far better positon to provide this type of facility than are the small cities and towns within the County, or any known private business; and WHEREAS, a central shelter would provide a more efficient and economical system of destruction and disposal than could most small cities; and WHEREAS, a central system could provide a more up to date and better quality holding center for quarantined or captured animals. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS THAT: 1. A county animal control center be established by the Commissioner's Court of The County of Denton, State of Texas. 2. Such animal control center to be constructed and operated by the county, and maintained on a contractual basis by the cities within the County of Denton, each community paying for its use of the facility on a pro-rata basis. 3.
