HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 88-14 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS STUDY REGIONAL MASTER PLAN FOR DENTON COUNTY WHEREAS, the Denton County Region has experienced considerable increase in population in recent years and is expected to continue to grow; and WHEREAS, an adequate and safe supply of drinking water is a fundamental necessity for life, and for the sound economic development of the region; and WHEREAS, collection and treatment of domestic and commercial wastes are vital public services that need to be coordinated with the water system; and WHEREAS, most of the cities, town and water utilities in Denton County organized a committee in 1986 to address water and wastewater needs on a cooperative basis; and WHEREAS, the City of The Colony participated in the Water Study Committee and contributed to the cost of the Study; and WHEREAS, the Texas Water Development Board awarded a matching grant to the City of Denton a nd the Committee to conduct the Study; and WHEREAS, the engineering consulting firm of Espey, Huston and Associates, Inc. was retained to conduct the water and wastewater study, has completed the study, and has submitted a Master Plan Report dated March 1988; and WHEREAS, the Texas Water Development Board has approved the Report; and WHEREAS, the Water Study Committee for the project has approved the Report and Master Plan, and has forwarded it to all participating agencies for official acceptance; and WHEREAS, the Upper Trinity Municipal Water Authority, Inc. has been created to begin implementation of the Master Plan pending creation of a permanent regional agency; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas: Section 1. That the Study Report, prepared by Espey, Huston and Associates, Inc. under the direction of a Steering Committee composed of 30 participating agencies in Denton County, entitled Denton County Water and Wastewater Study Regional Master Plan or the year 2010, is received and accepted. Section 2. That the City Manager is directed to evaluate the Report and Plan to recommend to the City Council how the City of The Colony can continue to participate in and benefit from the proposed regional water and wastewater system. Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage and it is accordingly so resolved.
