HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 88-30 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. ~'~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR MEMBERSHIP, TERMS AND APPOINTMENT THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR THE SELECTION OF OFFICERS; AND DETERMINING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it is the considered belief and opinion of the City Council of the City of The Colony that certain aspects of City government function in a manner that best serves the needs of the community when interested citizens participate and assist in the formulation of policies; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that a Youth Advisory Committee would benefit and be in the best interest of the City of The Colony and its citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: Section 1. That a Youth Advisory Committee for the City of The Colony, Texas be and is hereby established. Section 2. That the purpose of the Youth Advisory Committee shall be: A. To act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and the City Staff to help identify the needs of the people for community services. B. To develop new interest and participation in city government. C. To open better lines of communication between city government and the 'youth of the community. D. To sample public opinion and make surveys of community interest in regard to specific proposals and issues. Section 3. That the organization of the Youth Advisory Committee shall be as follows: A. The committee may consist of up to nine (9) members, to be appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Committee members shall be residents of The Colony and must not exceed 18 years of age. Members shall serve a term of one year and~ may be appointed to serve a second one year term if they have not reached the age of 18. B. Committee shall act on a majority vote of those members present. C. The Committee shall elect from its membership a Chairman, who will preside at the meetings. D. The Mayor shall appoint a Council liaison to serve as advisor to the committee. E. The Chairman and/or Council liaison shall call meetings as necessary. Section 4. That this resolution shall be effective from and after the date of its passag~ PASSED AND APPROVED this /~'~day of ~~~d~, 1988.
