HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 85-17 THE CITY OF THE COLONY RESOLUTION # A 3OINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY) TEXAS AND THE COLONY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CITY BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE; PROVIDING FOR MEMBERSHIP) TERMS, AND APPOINTMENT THEREOF; PROVIDING FOR THE SELECTION OF OFFICERS; AND DETERMINING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS) it is the considered belief and opinion of The Colony City Council and the Chamber of Commerce that certain aspects of City government function in a manner that best serves the needs of the community when interested citizens participate and assist in the formulation of policies; and~ WHEREAS, The Colony City Council and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are of the considered belief and opinion that such participation may be enhanced through a City Beautification Committee; and~ WHEREAS, The Colony City Council and the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are of the considered belief and opinion that a Beautification Committee would benefit and be in the best interest of the City of The Colony and its citizens; NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT 3OINTLY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE COLONY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY) TEXAS: Section 1. That a City Beautification Committee for the City of The Colony, Texas~ be, and is hereby established. Section 2. That the purposes of the City Beautification Committee shall be: A. To act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and the City Staff in matters pertaining to the development of on-going beautification of the City~ including but not limited to City properties~ residential and commercial areas, and roadways in and around the City. B. To aid in coordinating a City beautification program with other programs of the City and with interested community groups. C. To help identify needs of the community~ relating to the outward appearance and beautification of the City. D. To be responsible for the planning, implementation~ and maintenance of a city beautification program. Section 3. That the organization of the City Beautification Committee shall be as follows: A. The Committee shall consist of at least eight (8) members who shall represent the following: The Colony Chamber of Commerce: President & Chairman, Beautification The Colony City Council Committee The Garden Club(s) The City Public Works Department The City Parks & Recreation Department The Lewisville Independent Schools The City Manager or Designee Committee members shall be residents of The Colony and have expressed a keen interest in the development of a city beautification program. B. Members shall elect from their membership a Chairman who shall preside at all meetings and a Vice-Chairman who shall preside in the absence of the Chairman. A member of the City Staff shall not be eligible to serve as Chairman of the Committee. C. The Committee shall meet at least once each month. The Chairman may, however, call special meetings as necessary. D. Five (5) members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum. The Committee shall act on a majority vote of those members present. Section t,. That this Resolution shall be effective from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROV.
