WHEREAS, Denton County's population is in excess of 250,000 and is one of the most rapidly growing counties in the nation; and WHEREAS, the growing number of violent deaths in Denton County need greater investigative resources than are currently available through the seven Justice courts, and WHEREAS, a standardized investigation of deaths will provide a safer, more crime-free community; and WHEREAS, Denton County already budgets $100,000 for autopsies, alone, and a Joint-Medical Examiner District would only cost an additional $100,000 to $150,000 for full medical- examiner services NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of the Colony, Texas, hereby petitions the Commissioners Court of Denton County to implement a Joint-Medical Examiner District into the 1989-1990 budget.
