HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 89-11 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. .~-/I A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, DENTON, TEXAS URGING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO DESIGNATE THAT 16.1 MILE SECTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 121 FROM U.S. 75 TO NEAR FM 423 AS A FREEWAY WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation has concluded a feasibility study and engineering report to determine the need for a controlled access freeway with - six main lanes and six frontage road lanes in the area between U.S. 75 and near FM 423 on State Highway 121; and WHEREAS, the conclusions in the Report support the need for such a facility to meet traffic demands in the 2010 time frame; and WHEREAS, the City of The Colony is supportive of the development of a freeway along State Highway 121 with its borders; and WHEREAS, the City of The Colony pledges to use it best efforts to acquire and preserve the right-of-way which the Freeway will require, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: That the City of The Colony urges the Highway Department to designate that 16.1 mile section of State Highway 121 from U.S. 75 to near FM 423 as a freeway; and That the City of The Colony pledges to use its best efforts to acquire and preserve the right-of-way which will be needed to construct the Freeway.
