MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
July 10, 2004
A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order
by Vicechair Hudson at 9:15 a.m.

2. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held June
12, 2004
The minutes were approved as presented
3. Discussion of possible City banner project
Member Hudson stated that she has discussed this project with Parks and Recreation
Director Para Nelson. The possibility of silk-screening designs rather than painting
designs on the banners was discussed.
4. Discussion of possible joint fundraising project between local arts groups with proceeds
to benefit a dedicated area for the arts in the proposed civic building
Member Martin distributed copies of the current Civic Center Phase I design. She stated
that if the local arts groups could raise their own funds then those funds could be used on
a Phase II. Member Martin also suggested that a meeting room could be built for the
Chamber of Commerce, leaving a multipurpose room free to be built as suitable for
theatre. The Board discussed setting up a non-profit group to hold a variety show/art
show to raise dedicated funds. Member Whitmore suggested holding a silent auction.
5. Discussion and consideration of alternate meeting times/dates for September and October
Cultural Arts Board meetings.
Liaison Boykin explained that it would not be possible to meet on September 11 or
October 9, due to the Friends of The Colony Public Library book sale on Sept. 11 and
Liaison Boykin's vacation on October 9. Member Rapisarda moved that the September
and October meetings be held at 9:15 a.m. on September 18 and October 2. Member
Martin seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
