HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/07/04 Cultural Arts Board CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY FEBRUARY 7 ,2004 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Hill at 9:20 a.m. Present: Cyndi Parker Place 1 Carolyn Rapisarda Place 2 Neale Whitmore Place 3 Christi Martin Place 6 Lori Hill Place 7 Absent: Liz Ripperger Place 4 Pat Hudson Place 5 (personal) 1. Citizen input None 2. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held January 10, 2004 The minutes were approved as presented. 3. Staff Liaison's report a. membership of Civic Center Committee Liaison Boykin reported that the Committee consists of Council Members McCourry and Bayliss, CDC Board Member Susan King, Chamber ED Rob Baumann, and Pam Nelson. b. distribution of phone number list Liaison Boykin distributed a list containing contact numbers for Cultural Arts Board members. 4. Discussion of Council's request for area survey of Cultural Arts Boards Member Whitmore agreed to gather information about Arts Boards in Irving and Flower Mound, Chair Hill agreed to gather information for the cities of Garland and Mesquite, Member Rapisarda agreed to gather information for the cities of Carrollton and Farmers Branch, Member Martin agreed to gather information for the cities of Richardson, Frisco, and Plano, and member Parker agreed to gather information for the cities of Dallas and Lewisville. 5. Discussion of progress of planned Civic Center The Board discussed the importance of funding. Member Martin asked if the City Council would be interested in having the Arts Board chartered so that the Board could accept tax-deductible donations. The Board raised the questions of whether or not the money raised could be earmarked for the Arts and also __ the question of possible conflicts of interest from serving on the Cultural Arts Board and a separate charted non-profit Arts Group. Liaison Boykin agreed to forward the questions to the Parks and Recreation Director and the City Manager. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Nancygail Bqy~fi, Acting gec~retary Lori Hill, Chair
