HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/10/04 Cultural Arts Board CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY JANUARY 10, 2004 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Hill at 9:16 a.m. Present: Cyndi Parker Place 1 Carolyn Rapisarda Place 2 Neale Whitmore Place 3 Christi Martin Place 6 Lori Hill Place 7 Absent: Liz Ripperger Place 4 Pat Hudson Place 5 (excused) 1. Citizen input Cynthia Shailer, of 6805 Main St., Suite 180, stated that she would not be able to stay for the entire meeting. She wrote on the citizen input form that she would like for the Board to meet earlier, or on a Wednesday or Thursday evening. 2. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held November 8, 2003 The minutes were amended to read that Cyndi Parker's absence was excused. The minutes were approved as amended 3. Staff Liaison's report a. welcome and distribution of City Board Handbook to new members Liaison Boykin distributed handbooks to new members. b. operating rules and procedures Liaison Boykin explained that the Cultural Arts Board operates under the Open Meetings Act, and that the agenda for Board meetings has to be posted at City Hall 72 hours before the meeting. She also explained that each member would receive a copy of the upcoming agenda in the mail each month. c. status of planned arts building Liasion Boykin reported that the Civic Building Committee has nothing new to report at this time. The Board then discussed ideas for improving the public's awareness of the Cultural Arts Board. 4. Discussion and consideration of Cultural Arts Board goals for 2004 After discussion, Member Parker moved that the Board have as goals for 2004: 1) to have someone from the Cultural Arts Board placed on the Civic Building Committee, and 2) to plan an event and prepare an event proposal for City Council. Member Whitmore seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 5. Discussion and consideration of alternate meeting time for February Board meeting Liaison Boykin explained that the Library and the City Hall building would be closed on February 14th. Member Martin moved that the February meeting be moved to February 7, Member Parker seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
