MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD
OF THE
CITY OF THE COLONY
August 6, 2003
A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order
by Chair Hill at 7:45 p.m.

2. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held June 4,
2003
The minutes were approved as presented.
3. Staff Liaison's report
a. examples of some available grants
Liaison Boykin distributed examples of two grants for the arts from Target and
the Annenberg Foundation. Member Martin mentioned that Target usually
supports local groups, and that Sonic has a grant program.
Kent Godfrey, of 5060 Aztec Road, The Colony, spoke at the end of the meeting
on the topic of grants. He thanked the Board for its work and mentioned that
some large companies are no longer supporting the arts as they once did. He then
suggested that the Cultural Arts Board hire a professional grant writer.
4. Discussion of status ofplarmed arts building
Lori Hill reported that the last Council vote on the arts building was a vote to approve
plans for a 9000 square foot facility adjoined with the Chamber of Commerce. She then
reported that the Chamber wants the Cultural Arts Board to have a joint presentation with
the Chamber membership on September 3. Member Martin said that she has asked Patty
Granville from Garland to speak at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. She then
distributed copies of comparisons of local theaters, and also distributed attendance figures
from the Lewisville Community Theater and a list of Texas cities where the theater is
affiliated with the city.
