HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/04/03 Cultural Arts Board CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COLrNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY JUNE 4, 2003 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Hill at 7:55 p.m. Present: Liz Ripperger Place 4 Pat Hudson Place 5 Christi Martin Place 6 Lori Hill Place 7 Absent: Cyndi Parker Place 1 1. Receive City Board handbook from City Secretary Liaison Boykin distributed the handbooks and told the Board that they were welcome to contact the City Secretary if they had any questions after reading the handbook. 2. Receive report from Chair Hill regarding Council's response to Chair Hill's report to City Council on April 7, 2003 Chair Hill reported that she spoke to the City Council on April 7 about the Cultural Arts Board's goals and mission, and was well received. She reported that she spoke about the Arts building, parking issues, and how the building situation has changed. Chair Hill told the Board that the Council would hold a work session with the CAB in the future. 3. Citizen input None 4. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held March 5, 2003 The minutes were approved as presented. 5. Staff Liaison's report a. Status of architect's plans for arts building Liaison Boykin reported that the City Council, at the May 5 meeting, approved a contract with the City architects, which includes the preparation of plans for an arts building next to the old library. 6. Member Janice Rose's report a. Information from discussion with Corps of Engineers about the possibility of a parking garage on Senior Center land Chair Hill reported that Member Rose had resigned from the Board. Liaison Boykin distributed copies of Member Rose's report. 7. Receive request from Lakeside Community Theatre for assistance in relocating and refurbishing donated theater chairs Member Martin reported that the Lakeside Community Theatre has received100 donated theater chairs for which the city has donated storage space. The Theatre has requested a grant from Wal-mart and is looking for a discounted price for painting the chairs. Member Martin also plans to ask the 4-B board for money to refurbish the chairs. Member Hudson suggested asking for donations from fraternity clubs. 8. Discussion of new arts building proposal presented at May 5, 2003 City Council Meeting Chair Hill reported that she had reminded that Council at the May 5th meeting that the arts building would need more space than provided for in the current plan. She also announced an upcoming meeting with the architects planning the arts building. 9. Discussion and consideration of request to Telecommunications Board to hold a joint session for the purpose of discussion of possible arts programming Member Martin moved that the Cultural Arts Board invite the Telecommunications Board to one of the Cultural Arts Board's monthly meetings. Member Ripperger seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 10. Discussion and consideration of the Arts Board providing scripts for the "Mayor's -- Insight Program" The Board consensus was that the Board would not provide scripts for the "Mayor's Insight Program".
