HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 01-23 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO UNIFY ALL TERRITORY WITHIN THE CORPORATE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS UNDER ONE ZIP CODE WHEREAS, thc City of The Colony has strived to enhance the quality of life for its residents and visitors by pursuing quality development of family recreational and entertainment facilities within the city; and WHEREAS, The Tribute Golf Course and Hidden Cove Park are located within the corporate city limits of the City of The Colony, Texas; and WHEREAS, The Tribute is a City landmark and the anchor for development of the entire Wynnwood Peninsula, which is a major asset to the City of The Colony and is featured in most of the City's economic development material and other promotional information; and WHEREAS, Wyrmwood Peninsula will be the location of a major mixed-use development comprised of approximately 1200 upscale single-family residences, approximately 2500 multi-family residences, a resort hotel and conference center, retail and offices covering approximately 613 acres; and WHEREAS, it is critical to the marketing effort of the City of The Colony that the entire Wynnwood Peninsula development, including The Tribute, be associated with The Colony; and WHEREAS, the majority of Wynnwood Peninsula is located in the corporate city limits of The Colony or is within the extra-territorial jurisdiction of The Colony; and WHEREAS, Hidden Cove Park, formerly known as Lewisville Lake State Park, provides boating, fishing and full service camping opportunities for the City's residents as well as residents of several Texas counties; and WHEREAS, Wynnwood Peninsula and Hidden Cove Park are the only two major areas within the corporate city limits of The Colony which are not included in the 75056 zip code: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS THAT: 1. The City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas hereby requests that the United States Postal Service amend the area within the 75056 zip code to include: A. All of that land located on Wynnwood Peninsula, which is within the corporate city limits of The Colony, and particularly The Tribute Golf Course B. Hidden Cove Park C. All land within the corporate city limits and the extra territorial jtmsdiction of The Colony PASSED AND APPROVED this 20th day of Augu.~t, 2001. Bemetta Henville-Shannon, Mayor Patti A.
